Scroll down to find our all Natural SunScreens and Tanning Products... we are for the moment with a limited supply of these items. We make them in small batches and we constantly need to restock ingredients and packaging components. Note that some bottle shapes have changed for easier dispensing of these very rich and creamy products.
We are in the process of "retooling" our manufacturing facility so that we may increase batch sizes and fulfill the ever increasing demand. Meanwhile, if the item you wish to purchase is "out of stock", please contact us with your request and we will notify you when it is back in stock.
Monoi of Maui
Monoi is the Tahitian word for Coconut Oil, a miraculous gift of Mother Nature, used for many hundreds of years by peoples of Polynesia. When scented with flower petals, it becomes a delightfully fragrant conditioner and moisturizer for both hair and skin.
Polynesian women are known to have smooth lovely skin and rich flowing hair, in spite of harsh environmental conditions of blazing sun, and "salt air". Monoi oil is the secret: it keeps the skin vital and rich and shows amazing results as a hair conditioner. It is a wonderful tanning oil— but use good sense: it is not a sunscreen and it will not protect from overexposure to the sun.
The manufacturing process is called "Enfleurage" when flower petals are steeped in a solid fat— which is the ancient traditional way that essential oils are extracted to make perfume. When petals are soaked in a liquid oil, the process is called "Maceration".
Our process varies accoring to ambient temperatures, because Natural Coconut Oil solidifies when the temperature drops below 76 degrees Fahrenheit. Since temperature varies at our processing facility, we use the words "Enfleurage" and "Maceration" somewhat interchangeably.
We process the natural coconut oil in small concentrated batches of two or three gallons at a time. These concentrates are added and blended with larger batches of unscented oil. At the end of all the processing, we fill individual bottles and add individual Maui Grown flowers and/or flower petals to each bottle. Depending on the flower in question, it may fresh, dried (or semi dried) before adding it to the mix.
If temperatures (below 76 degrees) cause your Monoi to solidify, just place on a sunny windowsill, or soak in a bowl of hot (tap) water. It will re-liquify in a short time. (Don't microwave!)
Natural ingredients will sometimes separate, and fall to the bottom. This is normal and expected. Just shake well before using. We are confident that you will love this product. Aloha from Maui !
We invite you to browse through our small store and shop with confidence. You may create an account with us if you like, or shop as a guest. Either way, your shopping cart will be active until you leave the store.
